destination

Miami, USA

the squad trip with two halves: beach by day, latin city by night. spend time on both.

vibe
beach city, latin food + culture, design, art, late nights
best time
november–april. summer is hurricane season + brutal humidity.
ideal length
3–5 days
scout's take

miami is two cities pretending to be one. south beach is the postcard (deco hotels, ocean drive, beach club energy). but the real miami is across the causeway: wynwood for art + food, design district for galleries + restaurants, little havana for cuban food + dominoes in maximum players park, brickell for skyline drinks. don't spend your whole trip on the sand. the squad that does miami right gets one beach day, one wynwood day, one little havana + design district day, and one day-trip to key biscayne. food is the headline: cuban (versailles, sanguich), peruvian (cvi.che 105), stone crab (joe's, in season oct–may), nikkei (osaka). winter is when miami performs; summer is for locals.

things to do

wynwood walls + galleries

street-art district turned gallery row. the walls themselves are free; gallery hops happen second saturday of each month.

little havana + cuban lunch

calle ocho. domino park, ball & chain bar (cuban music live), versailles for cuban classics, azucar for ice cream. lunch + walk = 3 hours.

south beach + ocean drive

art deco district walking tour at 11am from the welcome center. then beach at 5th–13th st. ocean drive at sunset is its own movie.

design district

high-end shopping + galleries + restaurants in a planned 18-block district. icoa, mandolin aegean bistro, wynwood walls bus only 10 min.

key biscayne day trip

20 min from south beach. rickenbacker causeway drive, cape florida lighthouse, crandon park beach. uncrowded vs south beach.

vizcaya museum + gardens

gilded age estate on biscayne bay. 2 hours. quietest beautiful thing in miami.

where to stay

south beach

beach + deco. the postcard. busy, expensive, walkable to ocean drive + lincoln road.

wynwood

art + food district. younger, edgier, no beach. uber to everything (10–15 min).

mid-beach

between south beach and surfside. quieter, often cheaper, still walkable to the sand. faena + edition + soho beach house all live here.

brickell

downtown miami, skyline + bay. business-hotel feel, easy uber to wynwood + south beach.

flight hint

miami international (MIA) is 25 min from south beach without traffic, an hour with. fll (fort lauderdale, 30 min north) is often cheaper for jetblue/spirit. uber + lyft work; rental car worth it if doing key biscayne + everglades.

plan miami with the squad.
